Let spinach thaw or run it under hot water until thawed. The most important step is to remove as much moisture as possible from the spinach so you end up with creamy spinach dip instead of a watery one! I suggest putting your thawed spinach into a colander, set over a sink, and squeezing it with your hands several times, allowing the excess water to drain. If you want to make sure it is really drained, use a paper towel to soak up excess moisture.
Place squeezed spinach into a mixing bowl. Add softened cream cheese, sour cream, and ranch powder. Mix with a hand mixer or stand mixer until creamy. Fold in drained, chopped water chestnuts.
Cover and place in the refrigerator to chill until ready to serve.
