A faction of regressive MCU fans are attempting to argue that a cropped haircut is responsible for the dismal box office performance of Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania.

A spicy tweet sparked the absurd discussion when a fan posted a photo of Hope van Dyne (Evangeline Lilly) sporting a pixie cut with a caption challenging others to do their thinking for them, “This haircut singlehandedly tanked this film. Change my mind.”

Just in case there was any doubt about the sexist undertone of OP’s tweet, they doubled down on their policing of Lilly’s appearance with an ageist follow-up tweet.

Incredibly, OP was not the only disgruntled fan to lament the length of Lilly’s hair and moan about their horror of mature women.

NGL I was a lil confused when I saw I thought is she the grandmother or something now from a different multiverse 🥲 https://t.co/eqpUI72UkW

Without a scintilla of irony, OP echoed the shallow views of unbearable ignoramus Carolyn Burnham (Annette Bening) when she cruelly slammed her daughter’s failure to uphold the weaponized beauty standards of patriarchy in American Beauty.

Reminds me of Annette Bening in American Beauty when she asks Jane, "Are you trying to look unattractive?" This is almost as worse Courtney Cox's Scream 3 hair.

It wasn’t long before reality burst the bubble of nonsense as another user posted a GIF of Jamie Lee Curtis to point out that the length of a woman’s hair does not determine her attractiveness or the success of the movies she appears in.

Who can forget Halle Berry’s iconic pixie haircut or how her look influenced stars like Rihanna and Miley Cyrus to crop their long tresses? Moreover, Zoë Kravitz sported the same chic look when she played Selina Kyle/Catwoman in The Batman, a film that grossed an eye-popping $770 million at the box office.

Despite the disappointing box office figures for Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, Evangeline Lilly still walked away with a juicy $2 million paycheck. This makes it likely that, while her critics amuse themselves by poking fun at her haircut, she’s probably laughing all the way to the bank (or maybe her next anti-vaccine rally).
